We are Lorene Connolly and Bob Dwyer of Blyss Kennels. We live with our current family of four borzoi and a Labrador Retriever, in North-Central New Jersey. Since 2002, when we bought our first borzoi, Lara's River of Dreams, "Casanova", quite by accident, we have met many breeders who have become both friends and mentors to us. In 2004, we acquired a female borzoi from Karen Staudt-Cartabona, Majenkir Borzoi kennels, "Mikhailya", and with Karen, we co-bred our first litter, born here at Blyss bon December 4, 2008. That litter produced three male puppies, one of which became our fourth borzoi, "Tresor", rounding out our kennel to five dogs at this time. Don't forget to visit Ebony's page, the wonderful Labrador Retriever we rescued in Montrose, PA. Because of her, the idea of Blyss Kennels came into being, to be a place where first and foremost, dogs have a home where they are happy, safe and loved.
We are members of the Borzoi Club of Central New Jersey, Borzoi Club of Greater New York, Borzoi Club of New England, Borzoi Club of America, and Jersey Skylands Labrador Retriever Club. Through our participation in these clubs, we have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about our two breeds, borzoi and Labs. In particular, we have been fortunate to meet the breeders who are active in our geographic area and learn about the dog show world. Since we began showing, Bob has become an accomplished handler, whereas Lorene is more comfortable at home and ringside grooming and preparing the dog for the ring.
When our youngest borzoi, Opal, died suddenly in July 2006, we were inconsolable. Shortly thereafter, Lorene began to write about Opal for comfort, to immortalize and honor the precious life she lost. Soon, writing on other topics followed, usually centered on kennel life and activities with the dogs. One story lead to another, and now there is a collection of them. Some have been published as well. We welcome you to make time to read them. There is so much to say about the dogs.
